Let me give you a very short and simple tour around this breed.

Originally Schnauzers are from Germany. You can recognize these dogs by looking at him or her: A Schnauzer has a long beard and eyebrows and also very hairy paws. For some years now the law forbids to take off the ears and tails and here you can still see the little older ones without these bodyparts.

Here in the Netherlands there are 3 sizes which I'll point out as Small Medium and Large...

A Large is up and around 65 centimetres high and has a weight from about 40 kilo! The Riesenschnauzer or otherwise known as Giant Schnauzer has a steady character, can not be "bought", is strong and clever. Therefor the "Ries" is very suitable as a working dog. Police dog, guard dog; that's what make their hearts beat stronger. Here in Holland Riesenschnauzers are available in Black and Pepper 'n' Salt.

The Medium is the original Schnauzer (also known as Standard Schnauzer or in dutch Middenslag): They become approximately 47 centimetres high and can get a weight of about 17 kilo; just like the Riesenschnauzer you can find them here in the colours Black and Pepper 'n' Salt. By the way; Pepper 'n' Salt is thé original Schnauzercolour!

Then Small: My favourite size. It's easy to take a miniature Schnauzer, with an average height of 33 centimetres and a weight of 7 kilo, with you. They don't need to live in a big house, but wat they do need is activity. The Miniature Schnauzer (in Dutch called Dwergschnauzer) is clever and very active, so the perfect dog to keep you busy. Colours in Holland: Black, Black 'n' Silver (my favourite), Pepper 'n' Salt and White.

In the Netherlands the official organisation for Schnauzers is the Dutch Schnauzerclub. (It is a member of the Dutch Kennelclub, which takes part in the F.C.I..) Also there is an Organisation for Schnauzerbreeders and -lovers, which is called the V.S.F.L..
By visiting their websites you can find info and breeders of all varieties, but nowadays you can find lots of them also all over the internet. I've written down some elsewhere on this website as well.

As you can see this is just a tiny tip of the Schnauzer-iceberg and if you like some for info about a size in particular, just send us an e-mail.
